Journaling for Therapy

Journaling is essentially a therapuetic activity. Most of us, however, do not live in tragedy or crisis 24/7, but if we live long enough we will experience pain, loss, and any number of difficulties life brings our way. Therapy journaling is one of the best ways you can start and continue the healing process through difficulties you may be experiencing. Gaining wisdom and growing in all the ways we need to grow can be greatly enhanced by journaling.

Good people are good because they've come to wisdom through failure.
- William Saroyan

Here are some thoughts to get you started in Therapy Journaling.

- A Therapy Journal can be a life saver especially during rough times of recovery from a divorce, death or illness. By re-reading through difficult times during new times of distress, you can learn that survival and coping will get you through again. Perhaps you will glean some clarity when you see how far you have come in the healing process.

- Getting your thoughts down, on paper and in clear view can often help you to sort out complicated feelings. Even writing a letter within your journal to a person that has hurt you, can help you to bring feelings to the surface, see them at face value and then move on. Healing after a loss or great crisis is a multi-faceted situation and a journal can be a great and steady companion through the process.

- There are online journals where people of like situations go and publicly talk and journal about their recovery. Addiction, weight loss, illness, divorce and death all have forums and journaling sites devoted to sharing and recovery. We'll try and find some to help share this valuable tool.
