Teaching & Educational Journaling

If you are a teacher, or perhaps a homeschool parent, a journal of your efforts might be a wonderful tool for you. You can keep tidbits of information you might learn and wish to apply, special stories of achievement in your students, or even keep track of your own educational philosophy.

As you grow in your career, it would be very beneficial to know where you have come and where you plan to go in conjunction with your career goals. A journal can serve as part "diary" as well as a proving ground for your thoughts and success stories. Some schools even recommend such a journal as a valuable tool. And when you are done teaching, imagine the wealth of information you might be able to pass down to the next generation of educator.

As a homeschool parent, a teaching journal can serve to fulfill your state recordkeeping requirements, and also serve as a valuable family record of the learning process. What a wonderful way to document you and your children's adventure into the world of learning.

Here are some thoughts to get you started in Educational Journaling.

Consistancy is a gem with a educational journal. With this in mind, try to write frequently so that you can reflect on goals and achievements of your students during difficult times when you might not see changes.

Don't worry if you are keeping more of a diary instead of journaling. Allow yourself the freedom to step outside of the lines a bit, but there are no Journaling Police to tell you how or what or when you should journal. You alone decide the best over all tone for your work. And don't be surprised if it changes as your needs do. It is the true gem of journaling, it is very adaptive and a valuable tool of expression and therapy as well as a source of wisdom.
