Grandparent's
Heritage Journals
There are many more things you can leave
your children and other loved ones than money. A grandparent's
journal is the best way to leave a part of yourself. How often
have you come across some old letters and photographs of loved
ones from long ago and found yourself immersed in the words
and images of the past. Most of us are fascinated with how life
was in another time period. It almost like we can step back
into time and experience the past. Think of the joy we can bring
to our children by leaving piece of ourselves behind. After
all, words are timeless echoes of who we are.
Here are some
thoughts to get you started in Heritage Journaling.
- Gather together key photographs of your
life to reflect upon. These can be great catalyst to getting
started.
- You might want to start with a timeline,
a sort of guide to the major points of your life. Then use these
events as a jumping off point for your journaling. Don't worry
about perfect grammar and fancy writing, it is the thoughts
and memories in your own way of remembering that will delight
the generations to come. Who know's? You might even be the subject
of a book or movie a 100 years to come!
- There are many lovely commercial products
available that are "fill in the blank" type journals
and they can be wonderful ways to get started.
