 The Westvon Publishing Story

The dream to create and market unique resources for homeschoolers and to create websites about journaling and other areas of interest has become a reality for us at Westvon Publishing, LLC. Little did I know a year ago that I would be part owner of a company dedicated to marketing products and publishing ideas of such great redemptive value. At Westvon Publishing, we embrace the philosophy of redemptive living on all levels. First, and foremost, we recognize the redemption given to us through the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus, but from there we extend it to ALL areas of life. That is the central idea behind developing a Christian worldview. Christ redeems us through His sacrifice on the cross, yet that same redemption is powerful enough to transform all aspects of life, not the least being education.

The story begins in 1979, when I first met my now business partner, Sherri Chekal. She was an eager teenager who wanted to learn how to play bluegrass banjo, and I was the staff bluegrass banjo instructor at a local music store in Northville, Michigan. We became great friends (not to mention she learned to pick the banjo quite well) and stayed that way for a few years, but then as life takes people in different directions, we lost touch and went our separate ways. About twenty two years later, I received an E-Mail inviting me to take a look at a new web site she developed called BuckeyeBluegrass.com. Guess who is the creator and owner of the site? It's Sherri, my old banjo student. Her love and dedication to bluegrass music was alive and well.

It wasn't long after that we got together to catch up on a lot of years gone by. We compared notes and discovered that we had many things in common with regards to business and goals, and soon, we started crafting some ideas for websites and products we'd like to create. Sherri is a dedicated homeschool mom of two girls, and had already developed a product called The Master Planner, which gives homeschool parents over one hundred sixty record keeping forms on one CD. It is the ideal homeschool planning tool, and it impressed me as something that needed to be in the hands of all homeschool families.

After much conversation, prayer and planning, we decided to put together a company that would be the Mother Ship, so-to-speak, for the various products and websites we wanted to offer. Interestingly, I was in a career that I really didn't enjoy and on April 15th of this year I was caught in the middle of a company downsizing reality. We talked about it and decided now is as good a time as ever to put the machinery in gear and forge ahead. Westvon Publishing got its start (officially) on April 15, 2004 with the mission and purpose of promoting and encouraging redemptive living. Sherri is a gifted artist, designer, and marketing genius with an endless supply of great ideas. My background is in the academic arenas of Theology, Philosophy, and History with a strong background in writing and journaling. The end result has been the dreams come true of marketing and sharing our passions and ideas with the homeschool and journaling community.

We hope that you will enjoy our efforts as we move forward in
this first year of our new partnership.

Most Sincerely,

........
